This was my conversation with Kelsie after preschool today:
Me: Hi Kels! How was preschool?
Kels: Good
Me: What did you learn about today?
Kels: Um… fun stuff
Me: Really, more specific?
Kels: Um, fun play stuff
Then I finally got out of her that they learned about dinosaurs.
Me: Did you learn a song about dinosaurs?
Kels: NO (but then she started singing something about happy dinosaurs and baby dinosaurs)
Me: Hey Kels, I heard you learned about stranger danger today.
Kels: Oh
Me: So, what’s the rule? We never talk…
Kels: About strangers.
Me: Um, right. We never talk TO strangers. We also never take candy…
Kels: From a stranger. Or a dog. Just only from people.
Me: Hmm. (It took everything inside me not to laugh out loud) So, let’s talk about who strangers are. Is Brittany a stranger?
Kels: No
Me: Is Grandma Suzy a stranger?
Kels: No
Me: Is that boy walking down the street a stranger?
Kels: No
Me: Yes he is! People we don’t know are strangers.
Kels: Well, he’s just my friend.
Me: No he’s not. We don’t know him. Strangers are people we don't know. What about those construction workers at Gay’s house? Are they strangers?
Kels: Um, no they are only Gay’s strangers.
-- Generally I'm a pretty patient person but I could see this conversation was going nowhere. We’ll try again another day with the stranger danger rules. Silly girl.
